EGR3 as a potential susceptibility gene for schizophrenia in Korea
AssociationN=1,753Se Hyun Kim et al.(2010)· American Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics

This case-control association study examined SNPs in EGR3 and ARC genes in European American, African American, and Han Chinese populations. EGR3 rs1877670 showed significant association with schizophrenia in Europeans (p=0.0078, OR=1.48), while ARC rs35900184 was associated in both Europeans (p=0.0275, OR=1.45) and African Americans (p=0.0448, OR=1.65). In combined analysis across all three populations, ARC rs35900184 reached highly significant association (p=2.353×10⁻⁷, OR=1.54 [1.31-1.82]), supporting a biological pathway linking NMDA receptors to EGR3 regulation of ARC in schizophrenia susceptibility.

About ARC

Enables mRNA binding activity and structural molecule activity. Involved in cell migration; cytoskeleton organization; and regulation of cell morphogenesis. Located in cytoplasm and plasma membrane. Part of virus-like capsid. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]
