Admixture mapping of prostate cancer in African Americans participating in the North Carolina‐Louisiana Prostate Cancer Project (PCaP)

Admixture mapping in 990 African American prostate cancer cases using 1,438 ancestry informative markers identified a significant locus on chromosome 8q24.21 (rs12543473, P=0.0011) confirming prior findings, and discovered a novel European ancestry signal on chromosome 11p13 (rs10768140, P=0.0004) associated with prostate cancer risk. The study demonstrates that ancestry-specific genetic variants may underlie racial disparities in prostate cancer incidence in African Americans.
