The Impact of Interleukin (IL)-33 Gene Polymorphisms and Environmental Factors on Risk of Asthma in the Iranian Population

A case-control study of 126 asthma patients and 300 controls in the Iranian population examined IL-33 gene polymorphisms rs1342326 and rs3939286. The C/C genotype of rs1342326 (OR 2.50, 95% CI 1.33-4.69) and A/A genotype of rs3939286 (OR 2.18, 95% CI 1.05-4.52) were significantly associated with increased asthma risk. rs1342326 associated with atopic, mild, and adult-onset asthma with elevated eosinophil levels, while rs3939286 associated with non-atopic, moderate-to-severe, and childhood-onset asthma.
