The chemokine (C-C-motif) receptor 3 (CCR3) gene is linked and associated with age at menarche in Caucasian females

This family-based association study of 1,048 Caucasian females from 354 nuclear families identified significant associations between CCR3 gene polymorphisms and age at menarche (AAM). SNP7 and SNP9 showed significant total associations with AAM (P = 0.009 and P = 0.006, respectively), and SNP9 also showed significant within-family association (P = 0.01). The haplotype AGA (formed by SNP7, SNP9, and SNP13) was significantly associated with AAM (P = 0.008) and explained 2.01% of phenotypic variation, with carriers delaying menarche by approximately 4 months compared to non-carriers.
