Key Literature Trait Associations
Asparagus Metabolite Detection
After eating asparagus, the body converts asparagusic acid into pungent sulfur-containing compounds in urine. The A allele near OR2M7 (an olfactory receptor gene) is strongly associated with being able to perceive this asparagus aroma. GG individuals have anosmia to this specific odor. The ability to produce the odorous compounds is universal; only the ability to smell them varies.
