This meta-analysis of 22,233 CAD cases and 64,762 controls tested 41 celiac disease-associated SNPs for association with coronary artery disease (CAD). While 58.5% of celiac disease risk alleles showed positive association with CAD (OR 1.001-1.081), this was not significantly different from the 50% expected by chance (p=0.069). Only rs653178 at the SH2B3/ATXN2 locus achieved study-wide statistical significance (OR 1.081, p=2.2×10⁻⁶), likely through pleiotropic effects. The findings provide no convincing evidence that genetic variants associated with celiac disease contribute to CAD risk.

PhD thesis describing comprehensive genome-wide association studies of acute anterior uveitis (AAU) in European (2,752 cases, 3,836 controls) and East Asian (821 cases, 4,898 controls) populations. European descent GWAS identified HLA-B at genome-wide significance plus 11 suggestive loci (ERAP1, NOS2, MERTK). East Asian GWAS identified HLA-B and ERAP1 at genome-wide significance plus 12 suggestive loci (GPR68, RHBDD2). Mendelian randomization confirmed ERAP1 as functionally relevant and showed genetically predicted CRP levels positively associated with AAU risk.

About ETS1

This gene encodes a member of the ETS family of transcription factors, which are defined by the presence of a conserved ETS DNA-binding domain that recognizes the core consensus DNA sequence GGAA/T in target genes. These proteins function either as transcriptional activators or repressors of numerous genes, and are involved in stem cell development, cell senescence and death, and tumorigenesis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Jul 2011]
