This review examines how non-coding RNAs (miRNAs and lncRNAs) regulate integrin gene expression in cancer. Several SNPs in integrin genes affect cancer risk through disruption of miRNA binding sites: ITGB3 rs3809865 associates with oral squamous cell carcinoma risk, ITGB4 rs743554 with breast cancer progression, ITGB5 rs2675 with bladder cancer, ITGAV rs11902171 with prostate cancer risk, and ITGA2 rs6898333 and rs6880055 with prostate cancer risk.

This gene encodes a beta subunit of integrin, which can combine with different alpha chains to form a variety of integrin heterodimers. Integrins are integral cell-surface receptors that participate in cell adhesion as well as cell-surface mediated signaling. The alphav beta5 integrin is involved in adhesion to vitronectin.
