Suggestion of GLYAT gene underlying variation of bone size and body lean mass as revealed by a bivariate genome-wide association study
AssociationN=3,913Yan-Fang Guo et al.(2013)· Human Genetics

A bivariate GWAS of ~690,000 SNPs in 1,627 Han Chinese and 2,286 US Caucasians identified 14 SNPs associated with both appendicular lean mass and bone size phenotypes. Three SNPs in the GLYAT gene region (rs2507838, rs7116722, rs11826261) were replicated across populations with meta-analysis p-values of 1.68×10^-8 to 7.94×10^-8 for lean mass-appendicular bone size associations, supporting GLYAT's role in co-regulating bone and muscle development through glucose metabolism.
