A case-control study of 122 cases and 122 controls in Xuanwei, China examined 1,173 SNPs in 149 innate immunity gene regions for associations with lung cancer risk in a population exposed to high levels of coal smoke. FCER2 rs7249320 showed the strongest association (OR=0.30, 95% CI: 0.16-0.55, P<0.0001), while KLK2 rs2739476 and ALOX12B rs6503075 showed >2-fold increased risk. Significant interactions were found between KLK15 rs3745523 and coal exposure, and between FCER2 rs7249320 and KLK2 rs2739476 (OR=10.77, P=0.003).
About FCER2
The protein encoded by this gene is a B-cell specific antigen, and a low-affinity receptor for IgE. It has essential roles in B cell growth and differentiation, and the regulation of IgE production. This protein also exists as a soluble secreted form, then functioning as a potent mitogenic growth factor. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Jul 2011]
