Association of glypican‐6 polymorphisms with lumbar disk herniation risk in the Han Chinese population
AssociationN=1,016Baoyang Hu et al.(2019)· Molecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine

A case-control study of 508 Han Chinese patients with lumbar disk herniation (LDH) and 508 healthy controls examined six GPC6 polymorphisms. Two SNPs were significantly associated with LDH: rs4773724 (protective factor with OR=0.62, 95% CI 0.42-0.91, p=0.026) and rs1008993 (risk factor with OR=1.34, 95% CI 1.05-1.71, p=0.020). These findings suggest GPC6 variants may serve as genetic markers for LDH susceptibility assessment in Han Chinese populations.

About GPC6

The glypicans comprise a family of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored heparan sulfate proteoglycans, and they have been implicated in the control of cell growth and cell division. The glypican encoded by this gene is a putative cell surface coreceptor for growth factors, extracellular matrix proteins, proteases and anti-proteases. Mutations in this gene are associated with omodysplasia 1. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2016]
